Purpose of Varithena® Microfoam Vein Treatment
Varithena® is administered as a foam sclerosant to treat superficial venous reflux or varicose veins. It is specifically used for veins superficial veins that are refluxing or varicosities that are twisted, swollen, and not functioning properly. The foam helps to close off the veins, redirecting blood flow to healthier veins.
Procedure
Varithena® is injected into the affected veins using a small needle. The medication is in the form of a foam that displaces the blood within the vein and comes into direct contact with the vein wall, causing the vein to close and seal shut. The procedure is performed in a clinic or office setting.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia for your comfort.
Recovery
After receiving Varithena® treatment, you can typically resume normal activities on the same day. Your vascular surgeon may recommend wearing compression stockings and engaging in light walking to aid in the healing process and improve blood circulation. Strenuous exercise and activities that put excessive pressure on the treated area may need to be avoided for a certain period of time after treatment with Varithena®.
