Minimally Invasive
Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy is considered a minimally invasive procedure as it does not require incisions or open surgery. The foam sclerosant is injected using a small needle, resulting in minimal scarring, less discomfort, and a relatively quick recovery compared to traditional surgical approaches.
Follow Up
Dr. Parikh will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and ensure that the treated veins are healing properly. He may provide specific instructions for post-treatment care, including wearing compression stockings, avoiding prolonged sitting or standing, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy
Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGS) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat varicose veins and venous insufficiency.
Information
Purpose
Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy is performed to treat varicose veins by injecting a foam sclerosant directly into the affected veins. The foam displaces the blood within the veins, causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut. This redirects blood flow to healthier veins, improving symptoms and cosmetic appearance.
Procedure
During UGS, an ultrasound machine is used to visualize the affected veins and guide the injection of the foam sclerosant. The sclerosant is a special medication that irritates the vein walls, causing them to close off and eventually disappear. Multiple injections may be performed during a single session to treat different sections of the affected veins and often, multiple sessions are required to complete adequate treatment of the affected area.
Anesthesia
UGS is usually performed under local anesthesia provided for your comfort.
Recovery
After UGS, you can generally resume your normal activities immediately. Your vascular surgeon may recommend wearing compression stockings and engaging in light walking to promote healing and improve blood circulation. Strenuous exercise and activities that put excessive pressure on the treated area may need to be avoided for a certain period of time.
Efficacy of Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy
UGS has shown to be effective in treating varicose veins, improving symptoms such as pain, swelling, and discomfort. It can also enhance the overall appearance of the legs by reducing the visibility of varicose veins.
Risks & Complications
While UGS is generally safe, there are some potential risks and side effects associated with the procedure. These may include temporary bruising, skin discoloration, or the formation of small blood clots within the varicose veins. In rare cases, allergic reactions, skin ulcers, or nerve injury may occur.
